My laptop refuses to connect to the internet?

I recently switched my internet provider from virgin to sky. went through the process of installing wireless broadband and also wired broadband around the house. My main desktop is working along with two other laptops in the house but my Hp pavillion home premium windows vista refuses to connect to the internet. it shows that its connected to the wireless broadband but the internet refuses to work. is it a hp thing or windows thing because anytime I change internet services, it refuses to work.i've tried turning off windows firewall, restarted the wireless and laptop several times. ughh i hate hp, they are useless i tell u. :(
